Acheron Springs
The river Acheron, known since ancient times, attracts thousands of visitors to its sources. The ancients believed that through Acheron the souls of the dead were delivered to Charon to end up in the realm of Hades. Odysseus, after the Trojan War, met there the legendary Achilles, who had been killed in the Trojan War, during his wanderings to return to Ithaca.
In close proximity to the springs of Acheron, there is also the Necromandeion of Acheron.
The waters of the Acheron are completely frozen. Its sources are located at the foot of the mountains of Souli, outside the village of Glyki. The river flows into the village of Ammoudia in Preveza where it forms a delta.
One can enjoy the nature there and do activities like boating, horse riding and hiking. For bike lovers the surrounding area is more than ideal. There are taverns, cafes and bars for relaxation. Free camping is not allowed on its banks.
